Gold standard5
As an ER PA this is the gold standard to start with. Rosens is much more detailed but is too much to start with. I've found most everything I need is in this text.
Emergency Medicine: Comprehensive Study Guide 6th edition5
This book is a must. Its useful for any person who practice in the ER as well the outpatient. Is very good for general reference. The book give a review of the problem with a management oriented to the adequate level of care. Cover
every topics (trauma, pediatric, adult, ob/gyn, surgery). Is easy to read and well explain.
This book is an excellent learning tool!4
This book is a great textbook of emergency medicine, and I've chosen it over others simply because it's comprehensive without the useless drivel. Each section includes the necessary anatomy and pathophysiological considerations for the respective disoders. The subset of conditions are mentioned with just enough facts to understand the morbidity to treat it. The pictures, diagrams, algorithmic flow-charts, and drug regimens are a nice compliment, however, most of your clinical experience is going to come from interships and residency, so to assume this book is all you'll need to get by in EM is crazy. I still think it's the best out there to read before putting your mind to work.

PNF in Practice: An Illustrated Guide by Susan S. Adler
Product Description
PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) is an approach to therapeutic exercise which therapists all over the world have found effective for treating patients with a wide range of diagnoses. The approach presented in this richly illustrated guide is based on the concepts set out by Dr. Herman Kabat and taught by Margaret Knott. The fully revised third edition demonstrates how the principles of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and aspects of motor learning and motor control (from "hands-on" to "hands-off" management) are applied in modern PNF evaluation and treatment. The section on Activities of Daily Living has been expanded with new photos and more in-depth text instructions. A new fresh design and layout highlight the clearly structured way in which philosophy, basic procedures and treatment patterns of PNF are presented. Thus, this textbook provides a systematic and easily accessible guide to learning and understanding PNF as a practical tool and using it to full effect in patient treatment.

PNF in Practice5
This is a very good textbook. I am currently a Doctor of Physical Therapy student and this was a recommended book by my professor to help us learn PNF techniques. There are excellent descriptions and great diagrams. The only thing that would have made this a better book is if the diagrams were in color. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the benefits and techniques of PNF as well as most health care proffessionals. Being a student, this was also a very easy book to comprehend due to the great descriptions.

Fundamentals of Biomechanics By Duane Knudson
Product Description
Fundamentals of Biomechanics, 2nd edition, presents a clear, conceptual approach to understanding biomechanics within the context of the qualitative analysis of human movement. The philosophy is to blend up-to-date biomechanical knowledge (with extensive referencing for student study) with professional application knowledge. This true application of biomechanics in real-world settings is missing in previous biomechanics texts.
The text provides real-world examples of the application of biomechanics several ways. Like other texts, human movement examples and problems are discussed to help teach biomechanical variables and concepts. This text, however, goes beyond this physics class with sport example approach. First, nine principles of biomechanics are developed throughout the book to link theoretical knowledge with practical/professional principles and application. These nine generic application principles are based on the laws and concepts of biomechanics, so they can be applied to all human movements. There principles help PETE majors address standard 2 on applying movement concepts and principles in physical education (NASPE, 1995). Most biomechanics texts that have tried to develop principles for application have created many specific observations about many categories of human movement, so students tend to get lost. Second, the last section of the book develops the application of biomechanics in qualitative analysis of several movements in four professional areas: physical education, coaching, strength & conditioning, and sports medicine. These guided tours of the application of biomechanics to solve human movement problems are similar to the extensive interdisciplinary qualitative analysis tutorials in Knudson & Morrison (2002).

Review
"Fundamentals of Biomechanics is an exceptionally well written and structured introductory text on the biomechanics of movement. It integrates mechanical and biological concepts in a way that enhances understanding of what students often find is a difficult area of study!!! Many students will be stimulated by the book while all will find it easy to read as [Dr. Knudson] has integrated the topics covered into a coherent unit."
(Bruce Elliott, Professor of Biomechanics, The University of Western Australia, Australia)
"Fundamentals of Biomechanics delivers everything it promises, and more. The challenge of teaching and learning biomechanics is understanding the two distinct fields that it comprises - biology and mechanics. In my experience, some students enter biomechanics with aptitude and interest in one of these fields and reluctance to the other. As a leader in biomechanics, Dr. Knudson seems to realize this and does an expert job of teaching these two fields in separate parts of the textbook. The text is clearly written, and includes many helpful illustrations and examples."
(Glenn S. Fleisig, Ph.D., Smith & Nephew Chair of Research, American Sports Medicine Institute, Birmingham, AL)
"Fundamentals of Biomechanics is a wonderful and comprehensive treatment which meets the needs and interest of both students and educators! The text addresses the subject cohesively and solidly in a technical, yet very readable and effective manner... I'll use this text in my own summer course and recommend it to colleagues."
Jani Macari Pallis, Ph.D., International Sports Engineering Association, San Francisco, CA
"Duane Knudsons book, Fundamentals of Biomechanics, is an attempt to bridge the gap between quantitative and qualitative biomechanics. The book is remarkably well written, the structure is well designed and all the examples are carefully selected in order to enhance the understanding of the students. Additionally, the mechanical and biological concepts are exceptionally well integrated. This increases the spectrum of fields of application. The book should be read by students and professionals from all over the world. The reason is that Duane Knudson explains biomechanics for students, coaches, physiotherapists and medical doctors in comprehensive aspects of human movements clearly and simply with a biological and predominantly qualitative approach."

Review from the University of Granada, Spain5
After reading this book, one feels it is possible to understand very complex concepts in Biomechanics without equations. It bridges the gap between biomechanical theories and everday practice for undergraduate students and sport coaches.
Starting with the "Nine Principles for Application of Biomechanics" the author leads the reader to every area of biomechanics throught a logical structure with a lot of practical examples, comments boxes, clear figures and up-to-date references.
The inclusion of the end of each chapter of a recommended reading list, review questions and relevant or related Web links plus Laboratory Activities at the end of the book makes even more useful in the day to day work of teaching biomechanics or analysis of sport technique. This book will be an excellent textbook that teachers will recommend to the students with confidence.

Information Technologies in Medicine, Volume 1, Medical Simulation and Education From Wiley-IEEE Press
Product Description
A comprehensive survey of technological developments in Virtual Reality for use in medical education and simulated procedures
Medicine and the biological sciences have long relied on visualizations to illustrate the relationship between anatomic structure and biologic function. The new multidimensional imaging modalities are powerful counterparts to traditional forms of observation-surgery, postmortem examination, or extensive mental reconstruction. VR technologies have reached unimagined levels of sophistication and utility, giving physicians and students new avenues for planning and practicing surgery and diagnostics.
The two volumes of Information Technologies in Medicine thoroughly explore the use of VR technology in three-dimensional visualization techniques, realistic surgical training prior to patient contact, and actual procedures in rehabilitation and treatment, including telemedicine and telesurgery. Editors Akay and Marsh have brought together all the available information on the subject of VR technologies in medicine and medical training to create the first comprehensive guide to the state of the art in medicine for use by students, doctors, and researchers.
Volume I is devoted to the fundamentals of these new information technologies and their many applications in medical education and practice, especially in the area of medical and surgical simulations. Coverage includes:
* Virtual environment technologies
* The future of VR technologies in the twenty-first century
* Perceptualization of biomedical data
* Visualization in teaching anatomy
