What An Excellent Book! [ No Rating ] 26 Jul 2006 (updated 26 Jul 2006) by andrew myo Dear Mr. Author

I have got a copy of your book last week. It is really an incredible book that I have ever seen. I have seen so many Java books like Deitel, Ivor Horton. They are also good. But the book of yours can give me an overall bird-eye view of the Java Environment together with so many useful questions. I am totally impressed with the way you have learned Java. Yours Sincerely Ye Tun Oo -- Lulu - readers' review comments

Concise, to the point and delivers 4 Feb 2006 by rvakella This is a very well written book, and very intense, not only for interviews but also for a quick reference. The author describes all the key features quite succinctly. I have not seen a book of this nature in my experience previously and have thus enjoyed reading it multiple times. -- Lulu - readers' review comments

by Bharadwaj Gopal Having gone through the book, I have to say that I am really impressed with the book as a whole. It covers key concepts, stating the basics and fundamentals clearly. Its well updated including EJB 3.0, popular frameworks such as Hibernate, Struts and touching upon latest versions of JDK as well whereever needed. The book is well organised and covers all typical questions of a Java/J2EE interview. Most of the time we do know the questions and the standard answers, but a person reading this book would be able to express a clear answer which would make the person taking the interview believe that the candidate is a clearly above the mark. This book should be equally useful to interview takers as it is to job applicants. -- Lulu - readers' review comments

About the Author
I started using Java in 1999 when I was working as a junior developer. During those two years as a permanent employee, I pro-actively spent many hours studying the core concepts behind Java/J2EE in addition to my hands on practical experience. Two years later I decided to start contracting. Since I started contracting in 2001, my career had a much-needed boost in terms of contract rates, job satisfaction, responsibility etc. I moved from one contract to another with a view of expanding my skills and increasing my contract rates.

In the last 5 years of contracting, I have worked for 5 different organizations both medium and large on 8 different projects. For each contract I held, on average I attended 6-8 interviews with different companies. In most cases multiple job offers were made and consequently I was in a position to negotiate my contract rates and also to choose the job I liked based on the type of project, type of organization, technology used, etc. I have also sat for around 10 technical tests and a few preliminary phone interviews.

The success in the interviews did not come easily. I spent hours prior to each set of interviews wading through various books and articles as a preparation. The motivation for this book was to collate all this information into a single book, which will save me time prior to my interviews but also can benefit others in their interviews. What is in this book has helped me to go from just a Java/J2EE job to a career in Java/J2EE in a short time. It has also given me the job security that `I can find a contract/permanent job opportunity even in the difficult job market'.

one of the best books to buy about j2ee5
This book is very satisfactory if you want to increase your knowledege about java and j2ee. It has lots of short but very satisfactory and understandable answers to key java and j2ee questions. It is one of the best reference books I have ever examined about java.

Lots of info, but weak presentation3
Overall, I give this book a medium rating. There is a lot of information about J2EE and related technologies, which is good to help give you a quick understanding of technologies if you don't have any experience with them. The presentation is very weak and this book could be much better with a proper job of editing.

Pros: lots of good information, presented in a concise manner, lots of brief code examples
Cons: poorly written, many points are repeated multiple times, the grammar is sometimes difficult to understand

Does what it says on the tin3
I'm finding this a good book preparing for interviews after over a year out traveling, a slightly scary prospect. It's great to find so much subject matter (and most of it very relevant) in one place, but I'm only giving it 3 stars due to some really poor editing. Not something I normally worry about unduly, but I have a breaking point. Some of the examples are lifted more or less straight off other websites...
