Product Description
More than one million Americans have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, but fewer than 500 from this group have earned a Silver Star, Navy Cross, Air Force Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, or the Medal of Honor. These Americans have demonstrated extraordinary courage under fire—in the worst of circumstances. They come from all branches of the military. They also come from all over the country and all walks of life, representing the entire spectrum of races and creeds.

But what unites them are their deeds of consummate bravery, beyond the call of duty. Heroes Among Us tells these extraordinary true stories of valor, honor and sacrifice.

About the Author
As a major in the U.S. Army Reserve, Major Chuck Larson served for a year in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded the Bronze Star.

From AudioFile
These stories of combat and heroism recall incidents of gallantry, valor, and bravery in the face of death as displayed by members of the United States Armed Forces at war in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Among the incidents recalled: Five Kentucky National Guardsmen who, although outnumbered ten to one, routed their foe; the Special Forces defeat of the Taliban in the winter of 2001; and the story of the young Marine who gave his life to protect his buddies from a grenade. Lloyd James superbly performs these tales. With an understated delivery he credibly affects various regional accents, along with the pauses and mannerisms one would use in conversation. All this makes the entire production something that is very personal. M.T.F. © AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
