About the Author
Bonnie Biafore is an author as well as a project management consultant. As a consultant, she enjoys working with different clients and the diversity of projects she experiences, from CAD systems for structural steel fabrication to speech-enabled applications for telephone service field technicians and systems to manage hydroelectric power. While she’s sometimes tough on her clients, she is a far worse taskmaster for herself.
Bonnie has written several books, including Troubleshooting Microsoft Project 2002 (Microsoft Press) and The NAIC Stock Selection Handbook (NAIC). Since August 2000 she has been writing for Better Investing magazine a monthly column called Web Watch, which delves into the use of the World Wide Web for investing and how to develop good investing habits and smart and safe computer practices.
She is well known for her clear explanations of technical topics, whether it’s the inscrutable workings of computer software or the enigma of high finance. She applies her education from MIT and Columbia University to digest technical topics and then puts her organizational skills and humor to work to present material that engages beginners and experts alike.
Her education and work experience make her the ideal author for this Visio book. With a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Master of Science in Structural Engineering, she is well versed in using Visio for architecture and engineering and integrating it with CAD applications. As a project manager and consultant, she constantly applies Visio to office productivity problems. As a software project manager and application developer, she has also used Visio to document databases, software systems, and networks. As an engineer, she is fascinated with both the simplicity and power of Visio and enjoys experimenting with its customization and automation features.

Visio 2003 Bible5
As an application training specialist, I'm always looking for books I can recommend to my students, and this is definitely one of them. This book offers a great one-stop resource for all things Visio!

Visio 2003 Bible4
An excellent book that shows you how to get the most out of Visio. Although the explanations of various principles behind the application are brief, it provides enough detail to help you understand the basic concept and allows you to effectively use the information in the book.

Visio 2003 Bible - Not Bad3
The book is about 700 pages. It is a great reference. It tells you what you can do with Visio 2003 but it is lacking in telling you how to use the features. This book needs to be coupled with a book of applications. There is not much on Shape Sheets which is the heart of Visio shapes. You still have to go to the WEB and search for info from the MS Visio SDK (Software Developer Kit) for information about built-in Visio Functions that you can use in your Shape Sheet to make your shapes more powerful. For example, It would have been nice if the book had info about the DOCMD(1312) function which when entered into the Shape Sheet causes the shape's Custom Properties Dialog box to pop up on double click. This book needs a whole lot more of that type of practical information, but all-in-all it is still a good reference manual. I recomend buying some other CD training to get a grip on the applications and then use this book as reference.

good information sources4
This book is clearly written and user friendly. Biafore gives links to information sources, making it easy for the reader to get more information on each of the hacks. These links alone are worth the price of the book.

Good book, useful tools, beginner thru expert5
I've been trading for over twenty years, including a period as a floor trader on the Chicago Board of Trade. Even with that experience there are tips and tricks in this book I found useful to the point where I employ them daily. To be complete as a reviewer I will say there is a lot of pretty basic stuff from my point of view, but still well worth reviewing since some of it I had forgotten.

Well written, easy reading, well organized

This book can pay for itself very quickly...5
Online Investing Hacks by Bonnie Biafore (O'Reilly) is one of those books that can pay for itself in short order, as well as over and over.

Chapter list: Screening Investments; Hacking Excel for Financial Analysis; Collecting Financial Data; Analyzing Company Fundamentals; Technical Analysis; Executing Trades; Investing in Mutual Funds; Managing Your Portfolio; Financial Planning; Index

I worked at Enron from 1998 through 2001, and spent plenty of time during that dot.com era following my stock portfolio. I watched my Enron stock value go from incredible value to a point where it cost more to sell the stock than it was worth. I won a few bets (face it, that's what they were) on a few dot.coms and lost many more. What could have been an incredible nest egg, isn't. This book would have been a lifesaver if I had read and paid attention to it a few years ago. Biafore shows you how you can analyze and invest wisely using a variety of tools available to everyone.

If you're an Excel user, you'll find it an invaluable tool for analysis. She'll show you how you can use it to create financial charts (#13), calculate compound annual rates of growth (#26), and use rational values to buy and sell wisely (#36). #39 - Spot Hanky Panky with Cash Flow Analysis (using Enron as an example) would have literally saved me hundreds of thousands of dollars had I known about it. Even if you don't care about the investing tips, the hack on downloading data via Excel web queries (#7) was something I didn't know how to do (or that you could even do it!). The book has a little something for everyone.

As with all Hacks titles, you probably won't be interested in every single item. Some may not be applicable to your situation or may be too complex for what you care to handle. But all it would take is one hack to work out and change your investing for this book to pay huge dividends. If you do your own investing, you owe it to yourself to get this book.
