bad choice !
been a teacher for over twenty years...have used the learning express...the titles are either great or poor...this offering is horrible...much too wordy and confusing...bought it here on amazon...there are much better book/workbooks by this publisher...don't purchase this one...you'll be dissatisfied...sorry L.E., this is a dog---don't waste your pocket money on this selection
Right on Time!
I've only had a week left until I had take my last SAT Practice test. I had no problems with any section on the SAT except the Essay. I never got passed a score of 3 on the Essays I wrote on previous SAT Practice tests and I was furious! I really wanted to get a higher score on the Essay before I take the Real Sat. Note: SAT Essay is graded 1-6 or 2-12.
So, I went to amazon.com saw the title of the book and ordered it. As soon as it arrived I read it and I still had a few days until I take the last practice test. The day before the practice I read the book again but I only reviewed the most important techniques, tips and advice on the book so I won't forget during test time.
The next day was Test time! I had full confidence in my self and knew I would write a "Great Essay" thanks to the techniques on this book. So, when the test started and we had to write the essay I quickly used the prewriting methods explained in the book and afterwards I used the Active Voice instead of the Passive Voice (explained in the book) and made the essay concise and to the point.
Furthermore, I also used the technique of surprising the reader explained in the book. Think about it.. the people who read and grade the essays have to go over hundreds and hundreds of essays a day. So it is an excellent idea to keep the reader amused and in other words keeping the reader wanting to know what's going to happen next in your astonishing essay.
After I finished my essay I quickly reviewed it again to correct any errors. A week later, I received my scores and I really expected to get a 4 out of 6 on the essay since I never got passed 3. Boy was I surprised I got a 5 out of 6 or 10 out of 12 on the essay and a Writing Section score of 630 which is a GOOD score.
Overall, this simple and to the point 115 page book did exactly what its title says and thanks to this book I know the perfect ingredients towards writing a Great SAT Essay.
